Plant plays a vital role for existence of the life on the earth. India is one of the richest floristic regions of the world and is globally known for its rich traditional heritage regarding medicinal plants and plant drugs.
The present book is a compilation of different research papers ensuring that there is an urgent need to aware people about the medicinal and economic values of plants so that this medicinal treasure may be widely used and at the same time conserved and perpetuated in a judicious manner. Further, it has been realized that medicinal plants of the desert offer an advantage in having much greater possibilities of providing novel biomolecules in view of the environmental stress they are subjected to. Conservation, propagation and utilization of medicinal plants have, over the years, become a major thrust area of research activity throughout the country.
Desert areas harbour a high diversity of medicinal plants. Modern scientific validation methods have confirmed the strong analgesic, antiarthritic, antifungal, anti-microbial, antiparasitic, hepatoprotective, hypolipidemic, insecticidal and anticancerous activities of several of these species.
