The economic success of the animal industry depends on the successful production and proper development of the next generation of our farm animals. The general scientific principles which underline the genetics, fertility, growth and development of the animal are outlined in this book, for a knowledge of these forms our means of control over future generations and is the basis of rational improvements in the practice of animal husbandry. Such experience gained on domestic animals will in the future enable man the more easily to control his development also.
This book is based on two series of lectures which were given to inform the student and animal breeder of some of the results of scientific research and its application to the practical problems of livestock production.
In this book an attempt has been made to sketch in brief outline, and to illustrate by examples, that it is possible for the physiologist, anatomist and the zoologist to contribute towards advancements in animal production.
