This article investigates the possibilities of the agricultural extension system in the context of programs and actions aimed at increasing food and nutrition sovereignty and security of India. India scored 105 out of 127 countries on the global hunger index. In this scenario, nutrition-sensitive agriculture (NSA) is viewed as a critical development priority in order to tackle the prevalence of malnutrition in rural regions and address the observed agricultural-nutrition gap. There is an increasing worldwide interest in utilizing Agricultural Extension Services as a basis for food and nutritional security. Extension agents can play a crucial role in the development of nutritionally sensitive agriculture, paving the path for food and nutritional security. An extension agent’s potential role will be diverse here, such as promoting and creating awareness about nutrition sensitive agriculture, which may be hampered by their lack of knowledge, planning and implementing programs to integrate nutrition into agricultural extension services, coordinating and collaborating with other sectors and actors, improving the availability of diverse, nutrient-dense foods, improving access to a diverse diet, ensuring optimal utilization, and providing Extension advisory services encompass not only government extension services, but also those organized and supported by commercial firms along their supply chains. Effective extension nutrition promotion efforts should be context-specific, responsive to the possibilities and difficulties that extension personnel and farmers face, and based on existing knowledge, perceptions, and practices. Finally, the article addresses the inadequacies and problems of the existing agricultural extension system specific to the context, as well as recommendations for achieving nutritional security in the country.
