Agriculture and the Internet of Things (IoT) are being brought together with the purpose of monitoring everyday functions and automating managerial functions with the reliance on peripheral devices like drones, sensors, and other devices. With the aid of such devices, practitioners are able to monitor the status of soil, weather, crops, and livestock. This specific chapter, however, wishes to examine the various actions and functions undertaken within smart IoT in addition to the types of precise farming functions like smart fertilization, automated farming equipment, livestock farming, and health surveillance of crops. That is, productivity and sustainability of farming is improved through better predictive analysis and optimized resource allocation plus early warning systems, all as a result of the integration of sensor networks with the farm management systems. Also, the chapter deals into the influence IoT and Artificial Intelligence (AI) converge for solving farming problems through integrated farm advisory systems. Adoption is still much lower than desirable in the farming sector due to a number of problems such as steep costs, lack of fundamental digital skills, poor rural infrastructure, and poor data security. Faster internet aided by robotics as well as data collection tools like drones, along with modern Artificial Intelligence will strengthen IoT farming to be more precise and adaptable to climate change. All in all, IoT based smart farming offers a different perspective toward outcomes in farming.
