Grassland Management: A Field Manual NEW
Grassland and fodder management is getting immense importance in the current era. The increased human and animal population is causing the over exploitation of natural resources which is leading to the degradation of valuable land resources. Until now, ready reading and field practical manual on grassland/ rangeland are not available for the teachers and students. Therefore, it was utmost important to design the practical material to the end users on the grassland and fodder management. The manual would serve as a reference material for those who are concerned with the grassland and rangeland resource management, the agriculture/forest colleges and universities. There are sixteen practical exercises in this manual. Exercise first deals with the identification of grass species. Second and third exercises are devoted to herbarium preparation and estimation of carrying capacity, respectively. The rest of the exercises deals with grazing systems & their management, cultural practices for grassland improvement, heavy grazing indicators, vegetation analysis, study of different tools/ instruments, housing system for livestock management, preservation of fodder, preferences of livestock for fodder, feedstuffs & their nutritive value, carbon storage potential and fodder trees in relation of grassland and rangeland. This manual will be quite useful for teachers, students and stakeholders engaged in the field agriculture, environmental science and engineering, climate science, policy planning and land use system designing, etc.
