Abstract
Mental disorders are a worldwide issue that are increasingly costly for society. Personalized medicine offers a solution, but identifying genetic indicators that accurately predict the effectiveness of a treatment remains challenging. By analysing a patient’s epigenetic profile with other indicators, epigenetics demonstrates promise as a predictive method. Further investigation is needed to examine the process of replication, validation, and utilization in contexts other than clinical settings. An essential approach to regulate genomic activity over an extended period is by the methylation of many histone lysine residues. Recent molecular biology research has uncovered a greater range of complex and detailed applications for histone methylation than previously thought. Moreover, modern genomics techniques, such exome sequencing, have revealed a growing association between genes involved in histone lysine methylation and intellectual impairment. This highlights the need of accurate regulation of histone methylation during the process of neurogenesis. However, the study of the molecular origins of neurodevelopmental illnesses associated to histone methylation is still in its nascent phase because of the varied functions and intricate nature of histone methylation inside the cell. In this analysis, we investigate the latest research that showcases the harmful effects of alterations in histone methylation status within a specific context.
