Ethnomedicinal Plants Phytochemistry And Pharmacological Profile
The use of traditional medicine is widespread in
all the five continents and according to World Health Organization (WHO) about
80% of population of developing countries still dependent on herbal drugs for
their primary health care needs.
Currently, WHO recommends and encourages
traditional herbal remedies in natural health care programs because these drugs
are easily available at low cost, no side effect and safe.
The consumers
response to plant-based medicines has led to a global resurgence in the trade
in herbal medicines on various accounts.
Long years of teaching experiences, interaction
with cross section of students and research activities impelled me to share my
knowledge with large section of students and researchers so that they may be
benefitted.
Although in market there are large numbers of books which describes
either the plants of economic importance in general or give a short account of
medicinal properties.
With this perception I intend to publish series of volumes, each with different approach
about the medicinal plants.
The present book Ethnomedicinal Plants:
Phytochemistry and Pharmacological Profiles is Volume I comprising
large numbers of chapters with a comprehensive account of important
medicinal plants; ranging from Taxonomical classification, Introduction,
Ethnomedicinal information, Phytochemistry, Important bioactive compounds,
Pharmacological profiles and Therapeutic activities.
In the present book there are thirty chapters, out of which twenty seven
chapters discuss important medicinal plant species, while other three chapters
describe; National and International scenario, Sustainable
socio-economic development through cultivation and Conservation of threatened
medicinal plant species.
Plant species described in the book are potential
medicinal plants and are highly used in ethnomedicinal practices.
They are very
rich in different kinds of secondary metabolites and are arranged in alphabetical
order.
All the chapters are original contributions, language is simple and
figures/ photographs are very illustrative.
The contributors are eminent
Professors, Scientists and Research Scholars from different Universities/
Research Institutes either from within the Country or outside the Country.
References are relevant and update,
which are given at the end of each chapter for the convenience of readers.
Tables, figures or graphs given in the book are duly cited, at proper places.
