Advances In Biotechnology
Biotechnology has been quite helpful in keeping pace with the demands of every increasing human population and in improving the quality of human life. Major biotechnological achievements associated with human welfare have been from fields like plant and animal tissue culture; microbial biotransformation; genetic engineering; molecular farming; transgenic plants and animals; monoclonal antibodies for the diagnosis of disease etc.
The present book Advances in Biotechnology contains 21 chapters on varied aspects of biotechnology covering holistic information on the subject. Articles on potential of biotechnology in crop improvement and sustainable agriculture; transgenic plants; computational and experimental proteomics; DNA finger printing of trees; Agrobacterium and monocot plant transformation; protoplast fusion and somatic hybridization in higher plants; probiotic functional foods etc. have been reviewed covering latest knowledge in the field. Topics on somatic embryogenesis; tissue culture studies on bamboo; variability induced through tissue culture and micropropagation of minor forest produce species etc. provide necessary information using tissue culture techniques. A comprehensive account of ribosomal genes in plants; technological advances for development of new ornamental varieties; Biotechnology risk assessment; IPR in Biotechnological inventions etc. have added to the value of the book. Excellent account of transgenic insect resistance in vegetable crop improvement; secondary metabolites for host plant resistance to insects and application of biotechnology in nematology have been given in the book.
The book will be useful to biotechnologist, biologist, researchers, teachers and students of biotechnology.
