Applied Microbiology
Microbes provide us the basic tool for understanding metabolism growth, reproduction processes which are very difficult to study in higher plants. Microorganisms have also remerged as a new source for the benefit of society. Micro- organisms are capable of producing a great variety of substances that have commercial value. The ability to genetically engineer microorganisms for specific purposes has created a new field of applied microbiology.
Present book "Applied Microbiology" incorporate 20 articles on different areas of microbiology including agriculture, Industrial, Medical science, bioremediation and molecular aspects. The book contains articles on biofertilizers, Mesorhizobium symbiosis, biogas production and revolution in dahi manufacture. Chapters on biological control agents of plant disease, microbial control of insect pests of crops and disease suppressive mechanisms of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria provide exhaustive information on the subject. Biotechnological study including applications of serological techniques for identification and characterization of bacteria, probiotics, a natural way of healthiness have added value to the book. Articles on mycorrhiza and their role in agriculture and forestry, applications of VAM technology effect of phosphate solubilizing microorganisms and AM on growth and yield provide excellent information on the applied value of AM fungi. Book also includes articles on molecular systematic of Rhizobium management of disease by plant products and microorganisms and on microbial production of thermostable amyase.
This book will be useful to researchers, teachers and students of Microbiology, Biotechnology, Botany, Agriculture and Zoology and for the industry people at large.
